InSmile lingual braces
Fixed braces hidden behind your teeth, with no trays to take out.
Lingual braces go on the back of your teeth instead of the front. In normal conversation, people see your teeth, not brackets across the front of them, which is why they also get called hidden braces or invisible braces.

Free consultation with Dr. Ogden, and your price in writing. Nobody asks you to decide in the chair.
Not ready to come in? Send a few photos of your teeth and the office will follow up with what Dr. Ogden sees.
Most people who look into them are adults who have wanted their teeth fixed for years. They kept putting it off because they didn't want braces showing at work, or they tried aligners and stopped wearing them.
So the crowding or the gap stays, and so does the habit of smiling with your lips closed in photos. Lingual braces let you fix it without anyone watching you do it.
Ogden Orthodontics uses InSmile, a lingual system built around a custom wire that moves your teeth from behind. It is available at all three offices: Windermere on Maguire Road, Clermont on Citrus Tower Boulevard and Mount Dora on North Donnelly Street.
Your exact fee comes in writing at a free consultation. In-house financing is 0% interest.
See it for yourself
Switch between the two views. One is what people see in normal conversation. The other is where the brackets actually sit.

In conversation: just teeth. No brackets on the front, no wire, no trays. On the tongue side: small brackets and a looped wire doing the work.
Lingual braces are not the right fit for every bite. Very deep bites can knock lingual brackets loose more often, for example. Dr. Ogden checks your bite at the consultation and will tell you plainly if another option would finish your case better.
Hidden braces ask more of the orthodontist. The brackets sit where neither of you can see them easily, and the wire has to be planned precisely before it ever reaches your mouth.
Dr. Ogden has practiced orthodontics since 1994 and has treated patients with lingual braces since 1996. He has completed roughly 325 lingual cases.
He earned his dental degree at Case Western Reserve University in 1991 and finished a three-year orthodontic residency at the University of Florida in 1994. He has practiced nothing but orthodontics since.
He is the only orthodontist at all three offices. The person who plans your InSmile wire is the person who places your brackets and the one who checks your progress at every visit.

Some people start right away. Some take the written quote home for a few weeks first. Both are fine.
Everyday life
There is nothing to take out before lunch and nothing to keep track of in a case. You can have coffee in a meeting without excusing yourself.
On a video call or across a conference table, people see your teeth. You would have to open wide and point someone at the back of your teeth for them to notice anything.
On a work trip, your treatment keeps going whether you remember it or not. Because the wire keeps working between visits, you come in less often than with regular braces.
The trade-off for hiding braces behind your teeth is that your tongue notices them first, which the first month section covers. If you have a big presentation or a wedding toast on the calendar, plan placement a few weeks ahead of it.
InBrace closed in April 2025 and left some patients partway through treatment with no company behind their wire. In August 2025, Dr. Scott Schwartz, a New York orthodontist who had been the system's largest provider, bought the technology and relaunched it under a new company, InSmile, in part so his own InBrace patients could finish.
Dr. Ogden takes over InBrace cases that were started at other practices. If yours is one of them, bring whatever records you have to a free consultation. He will look at where your teeth are now and tell you what it would take to finish.
InSmile is an independent company that uses the Smartwire technology once sold as InBrace. You can read the maker's own description on the InSmile Braces website.
The part that does the work is the wire. It is made of a shape-memory metal and programmed from a digital plan of your teeth, so it keeps applying a steady, gentle force toward where each tooth is supposed to end up. The small brackets on the back of your teeth mostly hold the wire in place.
The wire is shaped with a small loop between each pair of teeth. It is designed so you can brush and floss the regular way instead of threading floss under a wire.
Your brackets are set up on a model of your teeth first. On placement day they go on together from a tray, so each one lands where the plan put it.
Because the wire is preprogrammed, visits can be spread further apart than with regular braces. InSmile puts the usual gap at 8 to 12 weeks. Dr. Ogden sets your schedule, and most InSmile patients here come in about every 8 to 10 weeks.
The adjustment
Most of the research on lingual braces was done on older bracket systems. A 2016 review in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics pooled those studies, and it is a fair picture of what to expect while you adjust.
Overall soreness is about the same as regular braces. It just shows up on your tongue instead of the inside of your cheeks.

Days 1 to 3
Your tongue keeps finding the brackets, and the tip of it gets sore. That was the most consistent difference between lingual and front braces in the research.
Orthodontic wax over the brackets helps a lot during this stretch. So do softer meals while your teeth are tender.
Weeks 1 to 2
Most people notice a slight lisp at first, mostly on s and t sounds. It is more common with lingual braces than with front braces.
It fades as your tongue learns where everything is. InSmile puts the adjustment period at about one to two weeks. The older research found it can run a few weeks, and for some people a month or more.
After a few weeks
By now the tongue has usually adjusted and the lisp has faded. Eating is no harder than with regular braces, which is what the research found too. Skip hard or sticky foods that can pop a bracket loose.
Studies of older lingual systems found cleaning harder than with front braces. InSmile's looped wire is designed for regular flossing between your teeth.
All three straighten teeth without a row of metal brackets on display. They differ most in how hidden they are and how they fit into your day.
If cost is the deciding factor, ask Dr. Ogden to price each option side by side at your consultation. The braces in Windermere, braces in Clermont and braces in Mount Dora pages cover regular braces, and Invisalign covers aligners.
Two minute check
Three questions, then a starting point you can bring to your consultation. Dr. Ogden makes the actual call after he looks at your bite.
How much does it matter that nobody can see your braces?
Could you wear removable trays 20 to 22 hours a day?
Which sounds closest to you?
You will get a starting point and what to ask about at your consultation.
Dr. Ogden gives you your exact fee in writing at a free consultation, before you decide anything. It is the same at all three offices, and it depends on your case.
Nationally, lingual braces usually cost more than regular braces, according to Healthline.
If Invisalign works for your bite and you know you will wear the trays, it may still be the simpler choice. If your case needs fixed braces, or visible braces are the reason you have put this off for years, lingual braces get you there without anyone seeing them. Most people you deal with never have to know you are in treatment.
The same as braces: every adjustment, repairs, one set of retainers when treatment finishes, and no extra charge if your case runs longer than planned.
Many dental plans include an orthodontic benefit written as a lifetime maximum per patient. Some plans pay that benefit the same way for any type of braces, and some treat the extra cost of lingual as an upgrade.
The practice works regularly with Delta Dental, DeltaCare USA, Cigna, MetLife, United Healthcare, Ameritas and The Standard. Bring your card and the front desk will check what your plan pays before you commit.
In-house financing is 0% interest. Cherry payment plans and military discounts are also available.
People see far more of your upper teeth than your lower ones when you talk. That is why some patients choose lingual brackets on the upper teeth and clear ceramic or standard braces on the lower teeth, an option the British Orthodontic Society mentions.
Dr. Ogden offers both: InSmile on the upper teeth only, or InSmile on top with clear ceramic braces on the bottom. Ask about either at your consultation.
No pressure
You do not have to work out which option is right before you come in. Sorting that out is Dr. Ogden's job, and the consultation is free.
He prices every option that fits your bite, side by side and in writing, and tells you which one he would choose for your case and why.
Nobody asks you to decide in the chair. Take the paper home, compare it with another office if you want to, and come back when you are ready.
Your teen and you are usually weighing different things. Your teen is thinking about senior pictures and what people at school will say. You are thinking about whether this is practical, and whether the extra money is buying anything besides looks.
For a responsible older teen, fixed braces behind the teeth can solve a real problem. Aligners only work when they are in, and trays have a way of living in a backpack. Lingual braces keep working all day without anyone having to remember them.
For a teen who already struggles to brush well, hidden braces can be a poor fit, because problems around the brackets are harder for anyone to spot. Dr. Ogden will tell you whether your teen's habits make lingual braces practical, and if regular braces or waiting a while makes more sense, he will say that instead.
If a bracket comes loose, call the office and it gets repaired. Orthodontic wax covers it until then.

The crowding or the gap that bothered you for years is gone. You stop angling your face in photos and smiling with your mouth closed.
You wear a retainer a few nights a week to keep your teeth where they ended up. Otherwise there is nothing left to manage.
Not in normal conversation, which is why people call them invisible braces. The brackets sit on the back of your teeth, so someone across the table or on a video call sees only your teeth. They show only if someone looks straight into your open mouth from close range.
Ogden Orthodontics offers InSmile lingual braces at three offices west and northwest of Orlando: Windermere on Maguire Road, Clermont on Citrus Tower Boulevard and Mount Dora on North Donnelly Street. Dr. Robert Ogden, an orthodontist since 1994, treats patients at all three.
The fee depends on your case and is the same at all three offices. Ogden Orthodontics gives you your exact fee in writing at a free consultation, before you decide anything, and offers 0% in-house financing.
They are worth it when visible braces are the reason you keep putting treatment off, or when your bite needs fixed braces and you want them hidden. If Invisalign works for your bite and you know you will wear the trays, it may still be the simpler choice.
Overall soreness after placement is about the same as regular braces, but it shows up on the tongue instead of the cheeks. The tongue is usually sore for the first few days while it gets used to the brackets. Orthodontic wax over the brackets helps.
Most people notice a slight lisp at first, mostly on s and t sounds. InSmile puts the adjustment period at about one to two weeks. Research on older, bulkier lingual systems found it can take a few weeks, and occasionally a month or more.
Yes. InSmile's wire has a small loop between each pair of teeth, which is designed so floss goes between the teeth the regular way. Older lingual systems made cleaning harder, so ask which system an office uses.
The same foods as with regular braces. Research found no real difference in eating difficulty between lingual and front braces. Avoid hard or sticky foods that can knock a bracket loose, and eat softer meals for the first few days.
Less often than with regular braces, because the preprogrammed wire keeps working between visits. InSmile puts the usual gap at 8 to 12 weeks. Most InSmile patients at Ogden Orthodontics come in about every 8 to 10 weeks.
It depends mostly on how far your teeth and bite need to move, not on the type of braces. Most InSmile cases at Ogden Orthodontics run about 6 to 14 months. You get your own estimate in writing at the consultation.
They solve different problems. Lingual braces are fixed, so they work without depending on wear time and handle some cases aligners struggle with. Invisalign comes out for meals and brushing. Dr. Ogden prices both when either could work.
Lingual braces are hidden behind the teeth, while clear ceramic braces sit on the front and are still visible up close. Clear ceramic is a good choice if visible braces are fine with you. Both are fixed, so neither depends on wear time.
InSmile is a lingual braces system that sits behind the teeth. A custom shape-memory wire, programmed from a digital plan of your teeth, does most of the tooth movement. Ogden Orthodontics offers InSmile in Windermere, Clermont and Mount Dora.
InBrace closed on April 22, 2025. In August 2025, Dr. Scott Schwartz, a New York orthodontist, relaunched the Smartwire technology under a new, independent company called InSmile. Ogden Orthodontics uses InSmile today.
Incognito is a lingual brand many people have heard of. Ogden Orthodontics uses a different system, InSmile, which also sits entirely behind the teeth and is built around a preprogrammed wire.
Very deep bites can knock lingual brackets loose more often, and people who struggle to brush well may do better with braces they can see to clean. Dr. Ogden checks both at the consultation and will recommend another option if it fits your case better.
Yes, once enough permanent teeth have come in. They suit older teens who would struggle to keep aligners in, and they are a harder fit for teens who don't brush well. Dr. Ogden can tell you at the consultation whether your teen's case suits them.
Often in part. Many plans carry a lifetime orthodontic benefit. Some pay it the same way for any braces, and some treat the extra cost of lingual as an upgrade. Ogden Orthodontics checks your plan before you commit.
Yes. Dr. Ogden offers both upper-only InSmile and InSmile on top with clear ceramic braces on the bottom. The upper teeth show more when you talk, so some patients choose lingual brackets only there.
The British Orthodontic Society notes that lingual braces are less likely to mark teeth than standard braces. Any mark that does form is on the back of the tooth, where no one sees it. Good brushing matters with any braces.
Yes. Teeth tend to drift after any orthodontic treatment, so you wear a retainer to hold them in place. For most people that means a few nights a week once treatment is done.
Free consultation
You have probably been thinking about this for a while. One half-hour visit gets you a straight answer about whether lingual braces fit your bite, and what they cost compared with the other options.
When the brackets come off, the only thing people notice is the result. Most of them never knew there was anything to notice.
