Introducing 3 Popular Types of Clear Aligners

There are lots of benefits of clear aligners that make them a popular alternative to traditional braces. They also make orthodontic treatment much more appealing and practical for adults. And most types of clear aligners available today can treat many of the same bite problems that traditional braces treat, like a gap between teeth, crooked or protruding teeth, overlapping teeth, overbites, underbites, crossbites, open bites, and more.

If you’re interested in fixing your bite problem with an “invisible” solution, here’s a quick look at some of the most commonly used types of clear aligners. Of course, you need a consultation with an orthodontist to determine whether you’re a candidate for this method of treatment and which one is the best choice for you.

Common Types of Clear Aligners

  • Invisalign is undoubtedly the best-known clear aligner on the market. You wear a series of custom-fit trays over your teeth for 20 to 22 hours a day. They’re made of a clear, thin, flexible, patented, FDA-approved plastic material called SmartTrack®. This material doesn’t contain BPA (bisphenol A), BPS (bisphenol), latex or gluten.
  • SureSmile works similarly to Invisalign, using proprietary software to ensure the most comfortable fitting trays possible and the most efficient treatment possible—even faster than Invisalign in many cases. The trays are made from a transparent, smooth, phthalate-free thermoplastic called Essix ACE Plastic.
  • ClearCorrect also works in a manner similar to the above-mentioned types of clear aligners. Its patented ClearQuartz triple-layer material is highly effective for keeping the exterior surface clean while the innermost layer does the job of correcting your bite. Also, the trays’ trimline design helps them stay on better with fewer engagers (small bumps affixed to your teeth to help clear aligners stay on).
